About Baja at UCF

Baja has deep roots here at UCF. Pictured is an old photo of Coulburn driving the baja car back when we were named Florida Technological University.

Ucf has been a part of the SAE Baja competition from the humble beginnings of the competition. It was even hosted here at the then named Florida Technological University, first in 1978 and again several times through to 1996. Each time UCF has entered at least one car and we arent stopping any time soon.

Being a part of the baja is like no other club UCF has to offer. We design manufacture and test our vehicle all in house at the engine research laboritory. This offers a uniqe opportunity to get hands-on experience at evey step of the engineering process. Becoming a part of our team will give you a chance to compete in an intercollegiate and international setting with teams from as far away as Canada, South America, and India. It was founded on the principle of challenging students to work as a team to design, build, manufacture, promote, and raise funds for a new product to the consumer market. Whether you are a mechanical pro or have never been in a machine shop this is a perfect opportunity for you to learn the real world applications of all you will learn in engineering classes and give you a fun extracurricular that looks great on resumes and gives you tons of experience. We hope you will consider becoming a part of our team!

Baja Competition

"Baja SAEĀ® consists of competitions that simulate real-world engineering design projects and their related challenges. Engineering students are tasked to design and build an off-road vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain."

Each year we design, manufacture, and test a Baja style vehicle to take to the baja SAE competition. The competiton is generally made up of several judge based presentations and 4 dynamic events: maneuverability, suspension/traction, acceleration, and an endurance race.

In the 4 hour long endurance race our car is pushed to its absolute limits. Many teams dont make it out alive and this is by design. Only the strong will survive. Teams converge from all around the world to compete at an international scale. Each year we do our best to represent the University of Central Florida as a force to be reckoned with.
